Re: Module 2 Advance Release (May 1, 2003 version) is Now Available
Date: May 1, 2003

Dear CSES Users,

An Advance Release of the CSES Module 2 dataset (May 1, 2003 version) is now available. It contains data from a total of eight election studies: Bulgaria 2001, France 2002, Germany 2002, Hungary 2002, Ireland 2002, New Zealand 2002, Poland 2001, and Portugal 2002.

The file can be downloaded from the CSES Website (http://www.cses.org), from the main page select “Download Data”, then register, and then select “CSES Module 2: 2001-2005”.

This dataset and all accompanying documentation is an “Advance Release” of CSES Module 2 (2001-2005). By definition, an Advance Release is a preliminary version of a dataset, and thus lacks some of the checking, cleaning, processing, documentation, data, and variables that are usual to the Full Release of a dataset. For instance, many election studies that will eventually be present in the CSES Module 2 Full Release are not available in this file. Because Module 2 extends through the year 2006, many of the elections whose election studies will contain CSES Module 2 have not yet been conducted. You may also find that technical characteristics of the file, such as variable and column widths, number of variables, and perhaps even some variable names, change between the Advance and Full releases of a dataset. If you plan to run analyses on the Advance Release, and then run them again on the Full Release when it is available, please prepare your programming to be as flexible and well-documented as possible so that it can accommodate changes in the dataset between now and then. We hope that until such time as the Full Release of CSES Module 2 is available, users will find this and future CSES Module 2 Advance Release files to be helpful in their work.

If you have any questions regarding this or other CSES datasets, please contact the CSES Secretariat by sending e-mail to [email protected].
