The GESIS - Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is seeking to hire a Research Data Processing Officer at their Data Archive for the Social Sciences in Cologne, Germany. The position will be a part of their International Survey Programs department, in support of the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES) and other projects.

The GESIS - Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is an internationally active social science institute belonging to the Leibniz Association. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal States. We are seeking applicants for an open position in Cologne, Germany for employment in the team "International Survey Programs" as a:
Research Data Processing Officer for the "Comparative Study of Electoral Systems" and further survey programs
(Salary group is TV-L 11, full time, initially for two years with perspective to extension. To start as soon as possible.)
In close interaction with an international team at multiple sites, you will process survey data from numerous countries to produce data sets ready for secondary analysis. Your work will require a sound understanding of basic survey methodology. Experience in handling survey data from electoral research and from comparative surveys is an advantage. Using quality protocols, your duties will include identifying coding problems and inconsistencies, developing program syntax to fix coding errors, and creating and editing data documentation materials in English language. English will be the main working language of the core project you will be working on.Essential requirements
- Qualified degree (Masters or equivalent) in a Social Science discipline, preferably Political Science with knowledge of elections an advantage.
- Strong proficiency in spoken and written English, along with fluency in German.
- Strong proficiency of a statistical program (e.g.: STATA, SPSS, SAS, R). Knowledge of Stata a particular asset.
- Full familiarity with computer-aided work in academic environments (MS Office, systematic web searches etc.)
- Ability to work in a team, and to cope with fluctuating workloads and multiple requests.
